Day 1 of the French Open started in Metz and it was very much a learning experience for our players against some of the World’s Youngest elite stars.
Beth Richards beat her French opponent in match 1 but couldn’t progress due to losses against Russian & English opponents. Lydia had a good chances but couldn’t make it count against Luxembourg, German and French players. Danielle, in her first outing in a Welsh top, played well against English, Netherlands and French opposition but fell short to progress through. All 3 players enter the consolation event starting tomorrow.
Benedict Watson (vs USA & Thailand opponents), Cade Short (vs Ukraine, Swedish & Romania opponents) & Joseph Roberts (vs French, Austrian & Polish opponents) will also have to settle for consolation after missing out.
In the doubles both Beth & Danielle and Lydia and Mari Baldwin (ENG) reached the last 32. The Boys doubles saw Benedict & Cade lose in the final 64, whilst Joseph & Rhys Davies (ENG) beat a Swiss pair then lost in the final 32 to Portugal.
